Child and Adolescent Psychotherapeutic Counselling
How does Child Psychotherapy help?
Children often need help processing and understanding their feelings.
Through play they feel safe and free and it can be used as a way of communication and teaching social skills. The therapist can use the interactions during the session to explore feelings, behaviors and coping mechanisms. This happens through a variety of methods such as play, art, and role play. The child or teenager is given the opportunity to express himself freely, to understand and accept himself, to develop abilities that will help him in his daily life, to strengthen his self-esteem, to develop his social skills, to express his feelings and the problems he faces. As trust develops the child may become more verbal and allow the therapist to understand its worries on a deeper level.
